The Tellico River is accessible with a two wheel drive from Murphy, North Carolina by Davis Creek Road or from Tellico Plains, Tennessee by River Road.

The Tellico River winds along the River Road and offers numerous rock outcroppings and shallow areas for easy access to the river. The Tellico River is periodically stocked by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency with brook, brown and rainbow trout from March to August. The trout typically come from the Pheasant Fields fishing rearing pools which are located along River Road at the Tellico Ranger District office.

There are releases for all three species of trout totaling near 5000 fish between March and August. A Tellico Citico permit is required and can be obtained from local outfitters along River Road. It’s not unusual to catch 8 to 12 inch trout routinely during the peak of the season.

If you’re looking to make your outing a weekend trip, there are numerous primitive camping spots along the river. The Tellico River area also offers scenic hiking along Bald River Falls or white water kayaking or canoeing.
